Description

Alcohuaz Vineyards is undoubtedly one of the most interesting vineyards in the country. With a unique high-altitude terroir and extreme viticulture, VDA is rewriting the history of Chilean wine in the landscapes of the Elqui Valley.
We begin with a brief introduction to the project and the landscape outside the VDA Sales Room. From there, we depart by vehicle to the winery, located at 1,810 meters above sea level, touring the old Pisco grape vineyards and the winery barracks adjacent to the winery. Then, we will learn how these high-altitude wines are made in complete harmony with the landscape, with multiple awards and prizes such as: Newcomer Vineyard, Best Chilean Syrah and Garnacha, Newcomer Wine Cariñan 2020, and the “Whinemaker of the Year” recognition for its winemaker, Marcelo Retamal. We’ll learn about the entire winemaking process, from the harvest to the bottle. We’ll visit the wine presses (where the wine is crushed), the concrete vats, the fudres, and the qvebris (where the wines mature), and the mystical wine library. Finally, we’ll head back down to the winery for a tasting of three of their finest wines.
